Ways to Capture the Emotions on the Wedding Photos

Be a Photographer Who’s Ready for Anything:

No matter how extensive or short your experience is with taking wedding pictures, it is a must for you to learn how to capture the emotions on film and let is show through the output of the photos that you took.

Let’s say that the guests partied hard during the wedding reception. Your photos should clearly show the joy, the ruckus, the merriment and some of the more contemplative moments which occurred.

On the other hand, the opposite should be true for the shots that you will take during the wedding ceremony. The pictures should show a glowing bride, a proud father, a nervous groom and the happy, envious or contemplative faces of the guests.

Tips on How to Capture the Emotions on a Wedding Day & How to Let Them Show on the Pictures

So how exactly can you capture the emotions which everyone felt during the wedding ceremony and allow them to shine through your pictures? Here are a few tips that you can follow:

1. Allow your creativity free reign.
Taking pictures can either be a science or an art, or a combination of both. No matter which point of view in photography it is that you will apply, what is important is that you are allowing your creativity free reign.

Don’t settle for the standard shots of the bride looking out a window in her wedding dress or snapshots of the highlights on the wedding reception. During the ceremony, you can focus on the joined hands of the bride and groom – or their parents.

Take discreet photos of the guests’ reactions when the couple was first announced as husband and wife. Zoom in on the contemplative face of the bride’s father while he is sitting down with his wife. These are the emotions which you can creatively capture on film – without the need to stick to the typical rules of the game.

2. Capture the emotions on film, but don’t forget to have fun as well.
Sometimes, it’s the unplanned shots which come out the best. For example, if you took out your camera and the flower girl suddenly cried or the bride’s nephew made a funny face at you – these are the perfect shots to take.

During the reception, you can go at a distance and take a shot of the bride and groom amidst the sea of people as they sway on the dance floor. Close-up shots of the couple as they kiss, hold each other and share meaningful glances also create the drama and ideally captures the romance surrounding the day.

3. Be a photographer who is ready for anything.
Remember that every couple is unique and every family is different. This is probably the best thing about being a wedding photographer. During that one day, you can get to know two families through your lenses by capturing the way that they interact with each other on film – so you do have to be a photographer who is ready for anything if your goal is to capture the emotions of a magical wedding day using your camera.
